Standard Ignition Distributor Cap P/N:AL-141
Standard Motor Products
Help keep high-voltage spark routed cleanly from the coil to each spark plug wire with the Standard Ignition Distributor Cap AL-92. It fits many vehicles, among them the 1938-1941 Studebaker Commander, 1939-1941 Studebaker Champion and 1937 Hudson Custom Six, as a direct-fit replacement for the listed applications. See the "Vehicles it fits" section for the full list.
The distributor cap sits over the distributor and works with the rotor. As the rotor turns, it passes ignition voltage to each of the cap's terminals in turn, and those terminals feed the spark plug wires in firing order.
Signs a distributor cap may need replacing include misfires, hard starting, rough running, cracks, carbon tracks or corroded terminals. If a worn cap is the cause, the AL-92 replaces it. Diagnose the ignition system first, because other parts can cause the same symptoms.

What does a distributor cap do?
It covers the distributor and carries ignition voltage from the coil, through the rotor, out to each spark plug wire terminal in turn, so each plug gets its spark in firing order.
Will the AL-92 work as a 1939-1941 Studebaker Champion distributor cap?
Yes, it is listed for the 1939-1941 Studebaker Champion. It also fits the 1938-1941 Studebaker Commander and the 1937 Hudson Custom Six. Check the "Vehicles it fits" section for your vehicle.
What is this distributor cap made of?
It is made of high dielectric strength, glass/mineral reinforced polyester resin. This material is designed for less carbon tracking and greater resistance to electrical breakdown.
How do I install a new distributor cap?
Transfer the spark plug wires one at a time from the old cap to the new one, so each wire stays in its original position. Make sure the cap seats fully, and follow the vehicle service information.
What are signs of a worn distributor cap?
Misfires, hard starting, rough running, cracks, carbon tracks or corroded terminals can mean the cap needs replacing. Diagnose the ignition system first, because other parts can cause the same symptoms.
